The Inferno & Ket-Rak's Challenges
Introduction
The Inferno is a stranger to nobody, so it needs no further introduction. The minigame, in its full glory (and some more!), has come to Blurite. Leagues gave me a good opportunity to dump the Inferno and learn the basics of it for myself, so I decided to implement the full minigame while I still had easy access to it, as doing so in the main game is quite a lot more time-consuming.
The Modes
Our version of the Inferno will come with three modes.
Practice Mode
Practice mode allows players to start at any wave from 1 to 69 and comes with no risks, but also no rewards. You will bring in your own gear and supplies, and all deaths are safe in it for everyone. If you die at a wave, the wave gets cleaned up, and you will have the ability to bank and repeat that same wave, with the exact spawn points that you had - or randomize them, if you so prefer. This allows players to practice the more difficult waves and set-ups over and over without having to re-enter the inferno or wait for a similar spawn layout.
Additionally, if the player has a TzHaar or TzKal-Zuk slayer task, they will be eligible for any slayer helm benefits in the inferno, but they will not gain any experience for killing the monsters in it, nor will the task reset if they die or exit it.
Shortened Mode
The shortened mode consists of waves 50-69. Players get to skip waves 1-49 in choosing so. Upon completing, you will still get the regular Infernal cape, same odds for a pet and all that. We feel like the Inferno is a little too challenging for most players, especially in RSPS, so offering a shortened variant of it which gets rid of the time-waste that is the first waves should help out quite a lot. You'll still need to defeat the more challenging waves, but you won't be risking 30 minutes of progress every time just to get to that point.
Full Mode
The full mode consists of all waves, starting from wave 1. This is identical to the Inferno in OldSchool RuneScape. We figured that there will be some players capable of taking on the full challenge, and they should be rewarded for that in some manner. As such, we're introducing the 2011 version of the kiln cape.
TokHaar-Kal
This cape has the same stats and functions identically to the normal Infernal cape. Players who have
completed the full mode at least once will be able to swap to and from the capes at any time, anywhere.
Before people mention, no, it is not viable to use the newer variant, the TokHaar-Kal-Ket. That cape utilizes complex textures, particles
and bloom - none of which the OldSchool renderer supports. Stripping all that away would just result in a worse appearance than the so-called rhino cape.
There are no other benefits to doing the full run other than getting the TokHaar-Kal cosmetic override at this time. We may consider adding other rewards on-top of it, such as different titles, or perhaps even the Dinh's Bulwark ornament kit - as it seems thematic.
Ket-Rak's Challenges
The Ket-Rak's challenges are a minigame where the players can take on anywhere from 1 to 6 JalTok-Jads at once. Upon completing the six JalTok-Jads wave, the players will unlock the JalRek-Jad pet metamorphosis option. There are currently no other rewards for completing this, although we may consider adding some more (perhaps the Dinh's bulwark ornament kit is more fitting from here instead?).
