Introduction

The Abyssal Sire is a Slayer boss found in the Abyssal Nexus, requiring level 85 Slayer and a Slayer assignment to be killed. This boss has been sitting on the back burner since the second half of 2023, in an incomplete state. I decided it's time to wrap it up, it was relatively close to completion, but the old tools I had made it incredibly difficult to figure out the parts that were still missing.

The Fight

The fight with the Abyssal Sire is currently no different from what you'd find in Old School RuneScape. If people have suggestions on how to make this boss more enjoyable, I'm open to hear you out.

Changes

There are two main changes done to the Abyssal Sire, compared to what you'd find on Old School RuneScape.

Improved Render Distance

The first is improved render distance. In Old School, as you run between the respiratory vents, the other side often disappears as you've gone too far from it, since the area is so big. Same with the boss, as you take on the vents in the back, the sitting boss usually disappears til you return back north. It's not really a deal-breaker, but I decided since we have the ability to fix this, I've increased the render distance from 15 tiles to 50 while in the Abyssal Nexus. This ensures you'll see every part of the fight even if you're all the way down south, assuming your client's render distance is set high enough to where you can see the map that far to begin with.

Fight Resets

In Old School, I noticed that the phase 1 of the fight doesn't seem to really ever reset. You could begin the fight, leave for hours, return, and it'd still be in the same state. In phases 2 and 3, the fight resets after a minute of inactivity. Because it was simply easier to make the fight reset, I've decided to make the reset-after-one-minute thing a part of phase 1 too. This ensures that players killing the Abyssal Sire fully control the fight and can't get hijacked for it, nor will ironmen have to suffer from residual damage dealt by others.
